The Times has been following three participants in the 12-week Provincetown Fitness Challenge.
One hundred townspeople signed up for the self-guided regimen, which began Jan. 16. They agreed to eat more healthful meals and exercise more and keep track of the results daily in a journal. The end is nearing, though, on April 7.

Comment: “I didn’t lose any pounds from last week. I understand it’s not uncommon that you kind of stabilize for a little while. I guess you’re building up muscle. I had friends of mine who told me to hang in there, and you’ll see more weight loss. I hope to see that.”

Weight: 141.5 pounds (starting weight 149)
Comment: “It was a good week, feeling good, feeling strong. For me, it’s all about that bone density test. Is it going to be getting better? Now I’m kind of curious. I haven’t had a bowl of ice cream or pretzels or beer, and I don’t miss it. I kind of like this routine. Now I just have to be competing with my weekly self and keep on keeping on.”

Comment: “I’m in Troy, N.Y., this week. I decided not to join Planet Fitness (here). I thought (the trip) was going to be eight to 10 days. It’s only going to be five days. I’ve walked a lot. I’ve been doing some upper-body weights. I’ll be back on Tuesday. I’m going to get straight off the highway and go to the gym. Foodwise, I went shopping here and bought all new food: veggies, soy and protein stuff.”
