Hey Summer –

Thanks for showing up. Being outside and all the festivity that it brings, especially as we come out of the Covid hibernation.

So summer is a blast, and for some of us best to stay cool & watch the overheating.

1. Try to exercise early in the cooler part of the day.
2. Yes, hats, yes sunglasses, some say the sunglasses help prevent/delay cataracts.
3. Drinking water – yes & eat melons & watermelon lots.

  • Corn on the cob: Did you know that corn is the largest crop in the United States? …it can be black, white, gold , blue, purple & orange & has B vitamins & fiber which helps keep blood sugar levels from spiking.
  • Watermelons: Watermelons originally came from the Kalahari Desert region in Africa, which is interesting because the average watermelon is 92 percent water.
  • Lobster Rolls – McDonald’s restaurants in Canadian provinces, such as Nova Scotia and Ontario, as well as in New England, offer lobster rolls as a seasonal item in the summer.
  • Cucumbers – loaded with water & fiber
  • Coconut Water – cools the internal temperature of the body
  • Celery – With a water content of 95% , clergy contains essential nutrients & is also loaded with iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus & zinc.

Denise’s
2 Cents:

I love summer. And especially as the world adjusts from the pandemic – being outside feels glorious. As we age, and if you have any immune issues, the heat & especially the humidity have a slight adverse impact.

I know some of us don’t like air conditioning, but I believe it has its place on the health habit list. Keeping cool is not just a nice thought, but a good practice in the summer.
