How will a fitness challenge help you?

  1. Momentum: The most difficult part of changing your relationship with exercise and developing a healthy life is creating momentum.  If you’ve been overwhelmed with life or ambivalent about beginning a fitness regimen this will jump start a new lifestyle.  Having a beginning, middle and end of a 10-week program is a powerful motivator and will give you a sense of success.
  2. Focus: In coaching we talk about what happens when you want to buy a new red car.  Suddenly everywhere you look you see red cars!  There’s a science behind this called reticular activation, which loosely translates to ‘what you focus on gets bigger.’  When you immerse yourself in a fitness environment it will start to become more a part of your life, until you’re looking at the world from that perspective.
  3. Support: The number one reason people fail at changing habits is a lack of support.  While you probably have friends and family who want the best for you, if they haven’t struggled with weight loss or with getting/staying fit, they don’t understand the difficulty you’re enduring.  When you are part of a group whose issues and goals are similar, it creates a sense of community.  They support you, encourage you and empathize with your journey.
  4. Skilled information: Starting a major life change on your own can be daunting, and if it involves nutrition or exercise can potentially be dangerous.  Working with a professional coach will give you the education you need to get to success unscathed. The coaching and videos give you the foundation you need.
  5. Jump Start: A fitness challenge is like a road race for a runner.  You get ready, prepare, run your best race, and then finish.  You’re part of a group of people all doing the same things at once.
  6. The Challenge: You enjoy pushing yourself and are intrigued to see what happens.

If you don’t have the means or desire for a personal trainer, one way to work at fitness is to commit to a physical challenge- a race, bike ride or mountain climb.  Having a specific goal helps to motivate you but will allow you to steadily increase your fitness so that you don’t die in the process!

Many of you know that I created the Provincetown Fitness Challenge is 2010 and held it annually for six years.  It was an amazing experience and I was truly gratified to experience friends and neighbors working together for fitness.

I took what I learned and translated it into a 10 Week Online Challenge that anyone can do anywhere.  Now you can do it even if you don’t live in Provincetown, and even if you don’t want to go to a gym!   The next ChallengeU begins January 23, 2017.  I’d love for you to try it out.  Go to  www.denisegaylord.com.  Click under “Work With Me- Challenges” to learn more.  OR send me an email (dgaylordcoach@gmail.com) or a text (508-237-6560) and we can talk.
